In Guatemala, painted altar found at Tikal adds new context to Maya history (phys.org)

Guatemala is the most underrated country in Latin America. Tikal is one of the best Mayan sites. I enjoyed my visit a few years back https://ashishb.net/travel/guatemala/

Oh the memories. Did the same as you, and extended my Antigua stay for a 2+ week workation (timezone is neatly lining up with US).

It is an underrated country, I remember that after Tikal I ended up at ChichenItza and it just felt boring (and way too touristy) compared to the lush jungle beauty in Tikal and Yaxhá.

Yeah, Chichen Itza has its pleasure of being a comfortable but touristy place. Tikal is much better for travelers, though.

Nice write-up. What's the deal with the transcription of the place names into Devanagari?
SanjayMehta 5 days ago [-]
Easier to pronounce; Devanagari is phonetic.

Exactly :)
